We are currently looking for a highly-experienced psychologist / psychotherapist to join The Dawn’s clinical team.
Located in Thailand’s northern capital of Chiang Mai, The Dawn is an inpatient substance abuse disorder and mental health treatment center that caters to an international clientele.
We are the only treatment center in Asia that is internationally accredited by the American Accreditation Commission International (AACI), a globally-reputed body overseeing clinical excellence in health care; as well as accredited nationally by the Thai Ministry of Public Health.

Job Description
The therapist is responsible for providing a full range of counseling services to clients with substance abuse and mental health disorders. He/she manages assigned caseloads and supports other therapists’ caseloads by providing individual, family, and group psychotherapy/ counseling. He/she works as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Working outside office hours, including evenings and weekends, may be required, especially on-call crisis intervention.
Responsibilities include:
Treatment Plan formulation and management
- Conduct psychological assessments
- Systematically collect and review information to continually develop an appropriate treatment plan based on evidence, research, client history, and clinical progress.
- Collaboratively consult with other professionals, especially the medical team, to assess client needs to determine the physical condition, the need for detoxification and for medication review.
Therapy delivery
- Efficiently treat psychological disorders by employing appropriate psychotherapeutic approaches, techniques and plan frequency, intensity, and duration of individual, group, and family therapies.
- Consistently assess client progress and modify treatment plan in relation to the measurable goals described in their treatment plan – to comply with changes in client conditions and to accommodate client needs.
- Effectively communicate with and counsel client’s family members as appropriate to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting clients. Keep them informed of the treatment plan and progress.
- Consistently provide weekly updates to the referring professional and case consultation as needed.
- Provide crisis intervention to clients as indicated in the professional guidelines.
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to encourage clients to comply with protocols, plans, and expectations upon ethical practices.
Maintenance of patient records
- Accurately document client records and/ or insurance reports regarding the clients' histories and progress, services provided, or other required information per policies and procedures upon medical record guidelines.
- Consistently and accurately record necessary information into the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
Management of discharge planning & client follow-up
- Develop a discharge plan and complete the necessary paperwork to refer clients to outpatient care and appropriate support groups.
- Assist admissions in following up on the progress of discharged clients to monitor client recovery.
Ad hoc tasks
- Actively assist with general monitoring of in-house clients as needed based upon availability and staffing needs.
- Effectively collaborate with other therapists, medical, support, and admission teams to deliver comprehensive care for the clients.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Master’s Degree or higher in Psychology, or related field plus 3 years of clinical experience in treating mental health and substance abuse disorders - preferably in an inpatient setting
- Or Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Psychology with 5 or more years clinical experience in treating mental health and substance abuse disorders - preferably in an inpatient setting
- Possession of a professional license.
- Experience with trauma-informed services, cognitive behavioral therapies including DBT, and motivational therapies including the use of incentives preferred.
- Working knowledge of recovery support systems and 12-step program a plus but not required
- Experience with EMR system is a plus.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage clients.
- Group facilitation skills
- Conflict resolution skills are preferred.
- Well-organized and flexible to meet the needs of administration and management, including working extra hours in cases of necessity.
